Class Rules:
*Two basic rights and responsibilities exist in this classroom. They are:
--Everyone has a right to a healthy and safe learning environment.
--No one has the right to interfere with the teaching and learning.
The following set of rules are derived from these two basic rights and responsibilities:
1. Be in your seat and be ready to work when the bell rings to start class.
2. Must not be out of your seat without permission.
3. No food or drinks (except bottled water) are to be consumed in the classroom.
4. Foul language will not be tolerated in class.
5. Be respectful of all adults and students.
6. Name calling or any threatening/bullying behavior will not be tolerated.
7. Hats and sunglasses are not allowed to be worn.
8. Cell phones are not allowed to be used in class unless approved by teacher. Phones may be confiscated if they are used without permission.
9. Music is not to be listened to unless approved by the teacher.
Procedures:
Class starts when the bell to begin class rings. You should be seated with all materials out and ready to work. You may be considered tardy if you are not in your assigned seat at the bell. The Internet will be used for much of our work. It is required that you have an acceptable use contract on file so you can use the Internet at school. While Internet access at home is not required, your Chromebook (or other device) is very useful and important.
Attendance and Absences: Your regular attendance is crucial for your success in this class. Excessive absences can interfere with participation, discussion, notes, etc., which can hurt your grade. I maintain an extensive website that can always be used for helpful references (helpful videos, notes, etc.) and to obtain assignments.
Class Materials: For this course you will need to bring the following items to class daily:
1. Pencils
2. Your Chromebook or another laptop computer.
3. A notebook for note-taking.
--sometimes notes can be taken on your device, but not always.
Classroom Policy on Electronic Devices:
All devices used in the classroom setting must be used for an academic purpose.
This includes computers, iPods, iPads, tablets, mp3 players, cell phones, PSPs, etc. This also encompasses calculators when being used to play games. Cell phones must be on silent at all times. I do allow these electronic devices to be used in class for educational purposes with my permission and clear instruction as to their use in the classroom. If a device is seen or heard outside of a designated usage time, I reserve the right to confiscate the item. To use it without my permission constitutes a violation of the school’s electronic communication policy.
In addition, if the electronic device is being used to cheat, plagiarize, cyber-bully, conduct illegal activity, sexually harass or some other violation of school policy or local law, there can be further repercussions beyond our class or school rules.
This policy is your warning. By reading this you indicate understanding of the expectations. If you violate this policy your Electronic Device may be confiscated and taken to the Student Support office.
When in doubt, ask your teacher, Ms. Lema, so that your device does not get confiscated!
